Kate Carey (formerly Gerson) enjoys a rich history of education reform leadership and organizational change management and has forged a unique path by combining service and spirit in order to be of use in America's journey. Kate has long focused her attention on matters of adult learning and organizational wellness. From 2020-2025, Kate was the founding CEO at Rethinc, a successful but sunsetting consulting and technology firm devoted to healing the way we work. Prior to Rethinc, Kate was the founding CEO of a national professional development non-profit working with hundreds of municipalities across the country.  She was a prolific fundraiser and category creating leader in the nonprofit sector, focusing the attention of educators,  school districts, ed tech companies, and service organizations on the role of rigor, respect, and non-discrimination in American schools. Raising more than $150M from major philanthropists including The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, The Carnegie Foundation, The Kellogg Foundation, The Ford Foundation, and others, Kate established and grew what is now the largest professional services organization in American education: UnboundEd. Prior to that Kate was ED of Academic Programs at New Leaders, and a founding principal at South Brooklyn Community High School (a community school that serves overaged under-credited high school students). She has an undergraduate degree in Women's Studies from the University of Arizona, a Master's in Secondary Education from Indiana University, and a Principal & Superintendent Certification from the City University of New York at Hunter. She lives with her two brilliant and suddenly nearly grown daughters in New York City with a fine dog and an impossible cat.
